Abstract
Gengival hypertrophy has been associated with the use of several drugs (phenytoin, primidone, valproic acid, nifedipine, nicardipine et al). Recently also CyA has been reported to cause this side effect. The mechanisms by which CyA cause gengival hypertrophy are little known: it has been hypothesized that, like phenytoin, CyA may select a subpopulation of fibroblasts producing highlevels of collagen, which accumulates causing gengival hyperplasia Aim of this study is to see if the incidence and the severity of gengival hyperplasia was related to the CyA blood levels.
