Abstract

Physico-chemical data characterizing hydroxyoxime behaviour in the aqueous and organic phases and at the interface are presented. The kinetic data and the mechanism of copper extraction by hydroxyoximes is discussed. It is shown that for hydroxyoximes having a long alkyl, reaction proceeds mainly at the interface and the extraction rate depends upon the HLB value of the hydroxyoximes. The contribution of the bulk phase reaction for 2-hydroxy-5-nonylbenzaldehyde oxime, 2-hydroxy- 5-nonylacetophenone oxime and 2-hydroxy- 5-nonylbenzophenone oxime, i.e., for active components of commercial extractants P 50, SME 529 and Lix 65 N, can be estimated as being 4%, 2% and 1%, respectively. For 2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde oxime, 2-hydroxy-5-methyl- acetophenone oxime and 2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzophenone oxime this contribution amounts to 99.9%, 84.2% and 12.5%, respectively.
