Abstract
Tumor tissues and serum of tumor patients studied by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) show increased T1 and T2 relaxation times. These increases in T1 and T2 form the basis of tumor detection by magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. In the present work the dependence of the MR imaging signal on T1 and T2 relaxation times will be elucidated. The characteristic MR appearance of a variety of tissues will be discussed on a physiological basis.
