Abstract
Besides ecdysones, juvenile hormone (JHs) are the only known insect hormones. They are vitally important in the control of several aspects of male and female reproduction, and regulate the development of the insects, ensuring the maintenance of the juvenile characters. The existence of a juvenile hormone was demonstrated as early as 1936 in Rhodnius (Wigglesworth, 1936) and confirmed by many subsequent findings (see Wigglesworth, 1985).
