Abstract
Repeated measurements of the number of particles in a fixed volume of high purity process gas give different values under essentially identical conditions. In this situation, it is necessary to treat the number of particle counts as a random variable, and statistical procedures are required to determine if the particle count meets specification within an acceptable confidence limit.
