Abstract

For the characterization of inhomogeneity in ferroelectric compounds, various types of instruments have been used up to the present. An optical polarizing microscope has been mostly applied to observe the elastic inhomogeneity indirectly through the piezo-optic effect, whereas scanning acoustic microscope (SAM) is useful to observe the elastic inhomogeneity directly and it is also useful to determine the elastic properties quantitatively.1
