Abstract

The antigenic composition of culture filtrates of Trichophyton rubrum is highly variable (P. de Haan & J. Wikler, this book). These results indicated that dermatophyte extract must be standardized. Since polyclonal antisera against antigens of dermatophytes are limited in quantity, we decided to prepare monoclonal antibodies against an extract of T. rubrum with the purpose of examining the antigenic composition of the culture filtrates of T. rubrum. The monoclonal antibodies were also used for the determination of cross-reactivity with related and non-related fungal extracts.
