Abstract
Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is caused by C. trachomatis, serotypes L1–L3. It is mainly a tropical and subtropical disease (Meheus et al., 1983), and therefore is endemic in eastern and western Africa, in India and Southeast Asia, as well as in some areas of South America and the Caribbean. Sporadic cases of LGV—often import cases from the endemic areas—are diagnosed each year in Australia, Europe, and the United States.
