Abstract
The clinical picture, diagnosis, and surgical treatment of disorders of the spinal cord represent a major and important aspect of neurosurgery, the presentation of which is not the objective of this book. That is why we discuss only certain functional operations on the spinal cord, proposed for the treatment of three common and grave syndromes. These syndromes, pyramidal spinal spasticity (often associated with painful spasms), urinary disorders, and respiratory paralysis are of such great clinical importance that their management represents a difficult problem for the neurosurgeon.
