Abstract
The formulation of a treatment plan for the patient with a history of one or more ectopic pregnancies is often a difficult one. Many times the decision for treatment must be made at the operating table, when the diagnosis is confirmed at laparoscopy or laparotomy. With the acceptance of conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancy, however, comes the opportunity for the physician to counsel the patient as to whether the patient’s best chances of fertility are with expectant management or with the assisted reproductive technologies. A knowledge of the various treatment options and the potential of each for future fertility is necessary for an enlightened decision.
