Phytin Synthesis and Deposition

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSA,volume 187))

Abstract

Reserves accumulated during seed development are not restricted to those of reduced carbon (starch and/or lipid) and reduced nitrogen and sulphur (storage, and other proteins). The remaining macronutrients — phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and calcium — are also sequestered within mature seeds, primarily as the organic phosphorus reserve, phytin.
