Abstract

Geselowitz and Grynszpan have considered the current dipole as a source of the biomagnetic field1. This is a natural and successful first approximation in many electrophysiological cases. Williamson and Kaufman have introduced the concept of a current dipole as an equivalent current source (E.C.S.) of biomagnetic field in some aspects of brain research. They have also emphasized the influence of the finite magnetometer pickup coil size and calculated the correction factor2 which is needed when estimating the spatial position of an equivalent current dipole source from the extrema of the measured magnetic field distribution.
