Abstract
Recent interest in microbial ecology has focused upon the detection and analysis of cells without prior culture of the organism. Many approaches that have been suggested use immunofluorescence or nucleic acid analysis. Another method is the use of flow cytometry (FCM) for the rapid analysis of single cells with the potential to measure a wide range of parameters.
