Abstract

The basis for most of the discussion and controversy related to produced water discharges into the world’s oceans centers on concerns related to possible negative environmental effects. For the past decade, the scientific community has been studying a broad diversity of habitats and a variety of marine invertebrates and vertebrates. Studies have ranged from the determination of the fate, using both field assessments and mathematical models, to acute and chronic toxicity.
