Abstract
Founding father of Swiss official statistics, Franscini was both politician and scientist. He was active in the establishment of Switzerland’s national identity and served as Federal Minister of the Interior. He is especially remembered for his advocacy of statistical information as an inherent ingredient of the democratic process.
