Abstract
Writing FORTRAN programs for a computer is like using any other new language. Communication with a native (or a computer) is absolutely necessary, if one is to develop skill and confidence. The reader is urged to develop his linguistic muscles by speaking FORTRAN with a computer on every possible occasion, including, but not restricted to, doing all the computer problems in this book.
