Bedside Automation for the Critically Ill Patient

Abstract

During the past decade there has been a great proliferation of devices for bedside monitoring and treatment of the critically ill patient. While providing a potential for enhancing patient care, such devices also pose a problem to bedside personnel insofar as they necessitate additional time and attention and create a potential barrier to easy patient access. In an effort to reduce these demands in our clinical service, major efforts have been made to automate bedside procedures.
