Indications for the Treatment of Myocardial Infarction with Corticosteroids

  • Chapter
Critical Care Medicine Manual

Abstract

For over 20 years, only sporadic attention has been given to the use of corticosteroids in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction and its various complications. There is now considerable interest as to whether this agent or any other type of therapeutic intervention can limit the size of an acute myocardial infarction. Laboratory experimentation indicates that this may apply, to humans as well as animals, and if so, it would be reasonable to assume that the use of corticosteroids will become far more widespread.
