Abstract

Transcription is a DNA-directed RNA synthesis that yields RNA with a base sequence complementary to that of the template DNA strand. DNA-dependent RNA polymerase (nucleoside triphosphate:RNA nucleotidyltransferase, EC 2.7.7.6) catalyzes the formation of internucleotide 3’ to 5’-phosphodiester bonds in this synthesis of complementary ribonucleic acid and thus plays a vital role in the transfer of information from DNA to RNA.
