In this chapter we discuss two applications of the theory of hcf’s to interesting parts of mathematics. The first application, to the theory of partial fractions, will take the reader into familiar territory (if by an unfamiliar route!); the second, to the theory of continued fractions, may well be much less familiar to a ‘modern’ student.
