Abstract
This chapter will briefly review the current knowledge on the regulation of the formation of neutrophils and monocyte-macrophages. Recent advances in this field have originated almost entirely from the introduction, in 1966, of methods for cloning the progenitor cells of these populations in semisolid in vitro cultures (3,31).
