Abstract

The application of ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology was first described by Donald et al in Europe in 1958 (1). In America it was described by Taylor et al in 1964 (2). Today, ultrasound is rapidly replacing the use of X-ray studies in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Since ultrasound study is safe, atraumatic, and noninvasive, it is thus an ideal scanning procedure for the abdominal and pelvic regions. At present it is essential to the practice of modern obstetrics and gynecology.
