Abstract
The development of microvascular techniques has made possible the revascularization of parts of the cerebrum by direct surgical approach. The operation of extracranial-intracranial (EC-IC) anastomosis has been performed frequently throughout the world but we are aware of only three reported cases in Britain. During the past year eleven such operations have been performed in Newcastle without preoperative or postoperative mortality and with little morbidity. These cases are described and possible indications for the operation are briefly discussed.
