Abstract

In this chapter second order nonlinear state models are considered. As indicated in the previous chapter it is not possible to develop a general procedure which is always applicable in the analysis of such state models. Rather, a few special techniques, applicable to certain cases, can be presented. As in the previous chapter emphasis is given to simple integration techniques as well as to the approximation of the nonlinear state model by a linear state model. But for second order systems, as seen previously in Chapter III, the phase plane is sometimes useful for describing certain responses properties. As before, a brief description of some ideas and concepts is first given; then several physical processes are examined where some of the concepts prove helpful.
