Abstract
I feel my response to what I have learned about DES in these past few days is that of a typical consumer, and my lack of prior knowledge reflects the ignorance of the general public about the issue of DES. I believed that DES was a past issue. I thought that the risks had been recognized; that DES was no longer in use; that a very few, select women were treated with DES a long time ago to prevent threatened miscarriage; and that these few women and their daughters must surely by now be aware of the situation and be receiving proper care. The truth is obviously far more serious.
