Scanning Techniques and Anatomic Considerations

  • Chapter
Real-time Ultrasound Imaging in the Abdomen

Abstract

Abdominal ultrasound imaging with realtime instrumentation makes greater use of the operator’s cross-sectional anatomic knowledge than does large-field static ultrasound imaging. This greater exercise of anatomic knowledge results from two characteristics of ultrasound real-time imaging: the smaller field of view of the instruments and the complete flexibility and mobility in placing the transducer at any site on the abdomen.
