Abstract
Drugs are important. Most physicians conclude consultations for inflammatory or rheumatic diseases by writing a prescription. After aspirin, along came the derivatives of acetic acid and propionic acid and finally indomethacin, with a long plasma half-life so that it need be given only once or twice a day. Yet, no anti-inflammatory or antirheumatic drug is perfect. Individual variations in responses are major factors determining, for example, gastric tolerance. More selective use of drugs is essential.
