Abstract
Nonchromaffin paragangliomas in animals occur principally in dogs; however, tumors have been reported arising in the cat, rat, cattle, and duck. Aortic body tumors were reported in the cat by Buergelt and Das (1968) and Collins (1964). Both aortic body tumors metastasized extensively within the thorax. In the case of Buergelt and Das (1968), the lesion was also multicentric. A feline carotid body tumor was reported by Catcott (1964). Two cases of aortic body tumors (Lombard and Sarrazy, 1965; Smith and Jones, 1966) and a carotid body tumor (Nordstoga, 1966) have also been reported in the cow. Ladds and Daniels (1975) found an aortic body tumor in an ox. Arias-Stella and Bustos (1976) also described the occurrence of carotid body tumors in bovines living at high altitude. An aortic body tumor was reported in an albino rat by Trevino and Nessmith (1972) and in a duck by Sah et al. (1974).
