Abstract
This unit contains five models concerning the naval environment and using some of the more geometric ideas of the calculus. A panel of officers in the Mathematics Department at the U.S. Naval Academy suggested these problems to arouse the professional interest of midshipman studying calculus. The problems are not, however, strictly navy-oriented; the word naval should be interpreted in its broader context and appeal to all students who can assume, at least temporarily, an interest in nautical affairs.
