Abstract

Roman Stoic philosopher, c. 30-c. 101 AD. Exiled by Nero and Vespasian, Musonius responded without resentment. He has been called “the Roman Socrates” in recognition of features such as his method of questioning and the remarkable harmony of his life with his high moral standards. What remains of his thought is apparently fragments of notes made by one of his pupils. Although some women were included among the Stoic philosophers, unfortunately none of their writings are extant.
