Abstract

It is impossible for a single cadaver to donate an entire pancreas plus a liver. For this reason the technique of whole pancreas donation is described separately. The main advantage to the use of a whole pancreas graft is that a larger mass of tissue can be taken. This may enhance blood flow to the graft and reduce the incidence of thrombosis. Whole pancreas donation may, of course, be combined with heart and kidney donation as described in Chapter 10.
