The Dilute Solution Properties of Glycosaminoglycans and Proteoglycans
It may be a reaction to the present economic pressures that prompts the question “Have we obtained good value for our money in hydrodynamic studies of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans?” Sad as it is, my own feeling is, no. Confronted with the plethora of higher information content data derived using instrumentation such as NMR spectrometers or X-ray diffractometers, the contribution of those toilers at the mill where centrifuges, viscometers, and light scattering photometers abound has been small. Thus, in an arguably appropriate use of the word, it would be profitable to review what has been achieved. I shall choose to be eclectic since only in this way can some connectivity between parts be imposed on such wayward subject matter.
