Abstract

The writing of this book has been guided by five major objectives: first, to document the ubiquity and significance of the phenomenon we refer to as entrapment; second, to introduce the interested reader to the methods used, and results obtained, by entrapment researchers; third, to summarize and, whenever possible, integrate the results of empirical work; fourth, to nudge the study of entrapment a step or two further forward by suggesting possible avenues for future research; and finally, to help locate the study of entrapment in the broader context and rich tradition of social-psychological theory.
