Abstract

There are two ways that modules may gain access to interface variables: through the module’s calling sequence or through COMMON blocks. Each variable is available by each method; however, module contributors are urged to access interface variables through COMMON blocks because this shortens the symbol table required by the ELLPACK preprocessor (see Section 16.A). Since the former method is straightforward we only describe the arrangement of interface variables in COMMON blocks.
