Abstract
Clinical recognition of neoplasia on the heart is a diagnostic challenge. The neoplasms are frequently misdiagnosed, since they can mimic almost all hemodynamic syndromes and common cardiovascular diseases. These disorders are especially difficult to recognize in elderly patients who have lung cancer. Cardiac tumors may cause hemodynamic derangement by arrhythmias, pericardial effusion, intracavitary space-occupying tumors, and systemic embolism. Intracavitary tumors cause obstruction and tend to cause mechanical hemolysis. Certain tumors like pheochromocytoma and carcinoid tumors produce constitutional symptoms through their biochemical secretions.
