Abstract
It is about 20 years ago that an acidic, alanine-rich protein, originally designated as A-protein (L7/L12 in the nomenclature of Kaltschmidt and Wittmann, 1970) was first detected in the ribosomes from Escherichia coli (Möller and Widdowson, 1967; Möller and Castleman, 1967; Kaltschmidt and Wittmann, 1970; Möller et al., 1972).
