Abstract
The work of building a large program can be divided among several people, each of whom must produee part of the whole. The complexity of the program is reduced by dividing it into separate well-defined parts or modules. The modules must be separated so that a programmer is able to write one module without needing to know the internal details of another module. All that is important is the interfaces between the modules.
