Abstract
In this chapter, we first outline the historical reasons for interest in the use of bizarre imagery. Next, we review and evaluate critically data that appear to support the mnemonic value of bizarre imagery. We then identify four key phenomena that any theory of bizarre imagery must accommodate. Finally we summarize existing theories and propose a new multiprocess model to account for the data.
