Abstract

The health care market is in the midst of changes that will revolutionize how medical care will be provided and financed. Emphasis is shifting from high quality at any price to sufficient medical services in a cost-conscious market. High technology and high finance may be tempered by the involvement of government and industry in the health care decision-making process. The doctor-patient relationship is being modified by contractual agreements with third party payers. The changes in the economic and political environment affecting health care have been traced to the rising cost of medical services.
