Abstract
Natural killer (NK) cells are a subpopulation of lymphocytes with the capacity to lyse certain types of tumor cells in an NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity (CMC) reaction. Since these cells exist in the absence of any known immunization process, they are thought to function in the first line of defense against newly arising tumors and infections. For these reasons, the understanding of the NK lytic mechanism, as well as its regulation, has been a strong interest in basic cancer research.
