Abstract
During the past two centuries, mechanical engineers have literally provided the engines for our Industrial Revolution. As a profession, we have contributed significantly to the phenomenal improvement in living standards now enjoyed, but very much taken for granted, by all of us. In recent years, however, with the advent of microprocessors and other solid-state devices, electrical engineering has emerged as the primary force behind much of the exciting and revolutionary activities; electrical engineers are now providing the engines for the ongoing Information Revolution.
