Registers are a sort of memory in TEX. There are different register types. For instance, counter registers allow the user to store numbers (such as the current section number) and to retrieve this number from a register, for instance, to print the register. This chapter discusses registers in general, counter registers in particular. It also discusses numbers and arithmetic in TEX.
