Abstract
In the preceding chapter we discussed how the mathematical theory of Chapter II could be used to specify statistical models based on counting processes. In particular, Examples III.1.2–III.1.4 on identically distributed survival data, relative mortality, and finite-state Markov processes had a common structure. In all these examples, aggregation of the individual counting processes leads to a multiplicative model for the intensity process. Furthermore, in Sections III.2–III.4, we saw how this multiplicative structure was retained under independent right-censoring, filtering, and left-truncation. Another situation with multiplicative intensity process was provided in Examples III.1.10 and III.5.5 on matings for Drosophila flies.
