Abstract

This chapter explores the characteristics of groups and how these are germane to technology for groups. Each member of a group is normally responsible for one or more distinct activities such that the sum of the activities accomplishes some group objective. Tools may be designed to support this group work by being a natural extension of the group process. To be effective the technology of a work group must fit the structure of its tasks [73]. This chapter develops a framework from which the relationships between groups and their groupware is understandable.
