Abstract
This chapter surveys existing tools and techniques for programming on the Web. The goal is not to teach how to program on the Web, but to show the capabilities and limitations of existing tools and give readers an understanding of the subject and point them to further reading. The tools discussed here have been evaluated as a basis for our own Web-enabled navigation tools described later in the book.
