Let us examine the lowest motor control level for which the neural structure is delimited by the major identified neurons of the spinal cord (i.e., α- and γ-motoneurons, Ia interneurons, and Renshaw cells) and by extrafusal and intrafusal muscle fibers. The experimental data on the structure of synaptic connections between cells of these types and the characteristics of their activation during movements are well known (see, e.g., Granit 1970). Therefore, we will briefly enumerate the most important of these facts without references.
