Abstract
A graph is a powerful way to show the results of mathematical calculation. Historically, graphs are a recent invention, a product of the scientific revolution of the seventeenth century. In La Géométrie, published in 1679, René Descartes arithmetized geometry by fixing the positions of points on a plane by the use of coordinate axis lines.
