Abstract

Central regulation of thyrotropin (TSH) synthesis and secretion is critical for the normal control of thyroid function and hormone synthesis. Thyrotropin is one of the five trophic hormones synthesized in the anterior pituitary. TSH-producing cells are referred to as thyrotrophs and are basophilic on hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining.
