Defining Gene Effects

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Monographs on Theoretical and Applied Genetics ((GENETICS,volume 11))

Abstract

Current developments in molecular genetics are rapidly overtaking our concepts of gene structure and action and of their control of the development of organisms. The structure of genes and even their location are now found to be far less simple and stable than previously thought, and the events genes affect in the maintenance of cells and cell products are also subject to control directly by other gene actions and indirectly through the genes’ own feedback mechanisms.
