Abstract
The title is unfair. I apologize. But I simply could not resist using it. It means in translation: THE TRIUMPH OF SCIENCE OVER TIME. How could one possibly find a better title to serve as the banner for a summary chapter on the study of the temporal organization of speech? The irony is that the statement is to be found in an advertisement for a new Christian Dior product for the renewal of milady’s aging skin. But even the ironic actuality fits; for time and gerontology are two of those few basic facts of life -- and death -- that science most certainly does not triumph over.
